Stormhammer, project, and of course some debate.

Hey Everyone,

So this came a little late but Forgeworld finally released their Stormhammer model. Originally shown in book 4 ,this super heavy is a battleship on treads and I think it's a must have for some Solar Auxilia players or, of course, the Imperial Guard. With two main guns and a full arsenal of weapons that works in a ironclad broadside style of engagement it's a  brilliant piece of work.

I know this will be a fun build for those Solar Auxilia players out there and I can't wait to see some pictures of what people painted!

Project Progress.

So this is the fun part of the blog for me where I talk about some of the project progress of the army and how its doing. Now I will say a lot of the stuff was built and painted before the blog begun but I still have much to finish and a few things to buy still from the previous list. This has so far been fun and after this list I hope to add a bit more to the army.

So far this is what's built and painted. I will be showing some close up shots in the coming weeks of the army but this is  a quick summary of whats built and painted currently.

Horus

Knight Errant

5 Centurions and flag standard bearer.

30 Tactical Marines, mostly standard tactical marines box.

1 Land Raider

3 Predators

10 Veterans with some special weapons.

This is coming along nicely and should bring the army to almost campaign ready for some up coming events in the next two months. There is still a lot of work to be done but with my mate helping me this shouldn't take long. Only thing that the army is waiting on is one last Forgeworld purchase before the campaign begins and we can really get into that 30k feel.

The Debate

So the debate I have been running in my head is if I want to include rumours of what's going on in the 30k/40k world. Personally I am not one for rumors and there's a lot of great sites and blogs out there showing off that kinda stuff. I kinda of want to just show off either project stuff, battle reports or what's already been released since what we have is great stuff. I am curious what people think and I'd like to hear some discussion below about what you may want to see on this blog.

14th Company Command Staff

Hey everyone,

So today I want to show of some of the models in the army. Got a good part of them painted but today I got something really special that just got painted. These models are going to represent  some of the extra Sergeants, Centurions, and Command Squad groups in the army.

Now for your viewing pleasure, some units from the 14th Company Luna Wolves.

First Centurion of the army. Will also be my place holder till I get the forgeworld Praetor in the mail.

Not sure if I want to make this one a Centurion or a sergeant. Only time will tell after I get some games in.

This will my Breacher squads sergeant , can't wait till I get the full unit done.

One of the Centurions was upgraded to a Legion Champion and I think will be a great asset on the battlefield. Also a master crafted thunder hammer will also work great against tanks.

One of the sergeants or used as a centurion. Although alot of people don't like plasma on their commanders I love for that little extra firepower you can get out of a model, also, it looks amazing.

So since its hard to get the forgeworld navigator model I thought I would find one for myself. Nice looking model and great rules. Going to love seeing this on the field despite not being a space marine.

So group photo of what got done. Will have to get close ups of the company banner as well as the Justaerin Commander.

Also an added bonus was a recovered old predator. You wouldn't believe this was once a heavily kitted out chaos unit. The rust and dirt is to show off that is been reclaimed and I love how it turned out.

So that's the new stuff in the army, I will be posting later on some of the stuff already painted but got way to excited about this batch. Also I want to give out a big thanks to my good friend Rob of Bear-Box Studios, a proud partner of the blog, and my mate who is painting up the Luna Wolves for me. Please check out his website at Bearbox Studios or you can find him in the friends of the blog section .

Consuls,and Rules oh my !

Hey Everyone,
So Forgeworld just released the rules for the centurion models that where released at Warhammer Fest. For those that want to download it you can find it here at this link Forgeworld Downloads. Now in addition to these rules they also have 2 consul upgrades for your centurions and I am happily surprised about what they can do.

Consul: Praevian
So for those who love to bring in battle-automata, this is your consul of choice to bring. With a built in Cortex controller and the new Cortex Designator, this allows some of the Mechanicum units into a standard legion army. The Cortex Designator is unique though bringing in a support option for those shooting battle-automata, giving them preferred enemy at a unit your consul fires at regardless if that consul does damage. This is a very powerful addition, making those units much more effective at range.
Now this is not all. The next rule shows off something also neat with the Master of Cybernetics Rule. This forces the consul to join either a Castellax or Vorax Class Battle-Automata. Now this is big since normally you can’t have a independent unit join a monstrous creature unit. So here you have a ok hq hiding with a possible toughness 7 mob of creatures...... can I say OUCH !!
Last, but not least, the rule that makes this different than your normal Forgelord. You have the Legion Inductees rule. This gives unit the consul is attached to either the Legiones Astartes special rule the consul has or they can take Tank hunters, Scout or Furious Charge. They also have additional bonuses for some legions with the Raven Guard one giving this unit Infiltrate and Fleet.....Yeah ok that’s just plain mean right there but it gives the Ravens some extra oomph.
I think this is going to be a great centurion to add and this makes me want to buy some Battle-Automata to add to the army.

Consul Legion Delegatus
For me this was long in the coming but we finally have a consul choice that allows you to take a rite of war. This is pretty big since in smaller games, where fitting in legion troops or trying to take a certain rite of war, it was harder because the Praetor always cost many more points when kitted out. The added thing with this, since it can pick rites of war, it also allows armies to gain access to the Legion Command squad that can give you a nice close combat unit to go with your new consul. Right here we are already seeing a great change that will affect Zone Mortalis and those smaller point games.

Next we have a new rite of war called Chosen Duty. This rite of war can only be used by the legion Delegatus which allows you to take Legion Veteran Squads as troops. Its minimal requires you to at least field 2 of these squads but already you have a nice small veteran force that fits in with the Delegatus. Next on this Rite of war is if your Delegatus lives you gain a additional victory point! Athough this is a double edged sword since if he is slain the opponent gains a additional point on top of Slain the Warlord . This is going to be a big game changer  in those smaller point games and  I can’t wait to try it out on the battlefield.

Alright everyone so here we have 2 new consul types that may change 30k forever. In addition, we also have more special characters for those that have either the Ironwarriors or the sneaky Alpha Legion. Last but not least we have a new rite of war to go with our consul that makes smaller games that much better. This update that came free from Forgeworld may change the game in a new fun direction.
So hope to see what everyone thinks and maybe see some comments below, I know I'm excited for this and can’t wait to see what's next.

Project Plans

Hey Everyone,
So I just wanted to talk about my primary project that I  will be posting about on the blog, the Luna Wolves. Out of all the legions this was a hard choice to make, with Ultramarines, Alpha Legion, and Imperial Fists, being some of my favorite legions. I picked them after reading the first 3 books in the Horus Heresy series and loving the rich characters I found in them as well as the characteristics of the legion overall. Added bonus! Their leader and Sire was non other than the traitor Horus!

After picking the legion I wanted, I needed to set some goals of what I wanted to do and what kind of story I wanted to tell. This was the other hard part since Forgeworld has already  come out with an impressive line of miniatures and rules that can be used for any part of the Great Crusade or the Horus Heresy that followed.  So in order to save some cash and time I went with trying to build an Early Great Crusade Army and slowly build it up to The Heresy.

So let's go over the first ideas for an army and a rough out line of what I want to get.
HQS
A Praetor with a paragon blade: To represent the main character of the company I want to make and it's a great looking Model.

Centurions: Want to pick up a few Centurions to be my line officers and some of the secondary consul types.
Elites:
10 Veterans: A nice Small Veteran Force that can join with the Praetor and the centurions as a nice body guard unit.
Troops:
40 Tactical Marines: So this is going to be the bread and butter of the army and a key component of any great crusade army.
10 Breacher Marines: Nice unit for a Zone Mortalis board and needed for any boarding actions.
Dedicated Transports
Rhinos: I personally prefer these over drop pods and want to get enough to field 40 marines into combat.
Fast Attack

Storm Eagle: Early Transport and the work horse of any crusade army till the Thunder Hawk comes out. Also this is cheaper than the new Storm Hawk that is coming out. ( So want one!)
Heavy Support
LandRaider Phobus: Want to pick up two of these to represent the companies heaviest vehicles in it's armory. Not sure when they were released but I assume it was early great crusade.

Predator Squadron: Want to get a squadron of 3 in the destructor pattern. Works great in early great crusade and has a lot of anti-infantry fire power in a nice platform.
Whirlwind Squadron: Nice Light Artillery Piece that can keep up with the rhinos and predators.

So I think this is a nice goal for the army to start out. Once painted it should make for a nice early crusade army. I will be adding to it as much I can as well as getting as much forgeworld stuff as the wallet can take, especially the early mark armor.

You will also notice that there will be some stuff posted up that is not on the list since I will be converting some old stuff I had around from previous marine armies. Another thing I will be doing, for those who wish to play 40k instead 30k in the club I am a part of, is keeping a more "Modern"  army so that we will be fairly matched.
Hope this will give some insight into what will be showing up in the coming months for the army and the blog.
